Following what seems like something of a gap in provision, it is proposed that an 'Outdoor Development for the Workplace' special interest group within the Institute of Outdoor Learning should be set up. It is for practitioners providing personal and professional development to people who are at work or preparing to work in commerce, industry and the public sector, and outdoor practitioners wishing to build their development skills in these areas.
It aims to provide:
• A point of contact for practitioners and the Institute.
• A focal point for organisations and people outside the IOL to learn more about effectively using outdoor development for the workplace (ODW).
• A place for research and reflection on ODW
• A forum for sharing ideas, developing underlying theories, promotion of ODW and the education of ODW customers.
As well as meetings to help practitioners network, the SIG aims, in the fullness of time, to offer short CPD programmes for existing practitioners and introductory programmes for those new to the field. It also aims to facilitate the development of materials and articles for the promotion of ODW and for the education of practitioners and customers.
The target launch is a short inaugural meeting during the Festival of Outdoor Learning at Lindley Hollowford (22nd February 2014 - see www.lindleyeducationaltrust.org/news/festival.htm).
If you're interested but can't be there on that evening, have an opinion you'd like to share, or just want to be kept informed, contact either Bill Krouwel ([log in to unmask]) or Sam Moore ([log in to unmask]).
