Dear Hamed,
We are pleased to share with you additional information on opportunities
for students in connection with the Internet Engineering Task Force and
IETF 89 in London, 2-7 March.
The meeting in London is expected to attract 1,200 participants from
more than 40 countries. It will be the only meeting of the IETF in the
European region in 2014:
http://www.ietf.org/meeting/89/index.html
The IETF provides unique opportunities for computer science and
engineering students to learn about Internet standards and participate
in their development. As the institutional home of the IETF, the
Internet Society encourages you to share information on these
opportunities with your students.
REMOTE
The business of the IETF and its working groups is conducted online -
between and during meetings - via email lists. Students are encouraged
to subscribe to e-lists of working groups of interest to "listen in" or
contribute. During IETF meetings, additional remote participation
options include jabber chartrooms, audio streams, WebEx, and Meetecho.
(Students may participate in the IETF this way at any time, regardless
of meeting locations.)
IN-PERSON
In addition to the above no-cost options, students may attend the IETF
meeting, in person, at the discounted rate of USD 150 (approximately GBP
92). This enables students to attend any working group sessions of
interest, plenary sessions, as well as the orientation for newcomers, a
welcome reception, and a Meet and Greet where first-time attendees have
opportunities to meet and talk with IETF working group chairs. The
registration fee also includes coffee/tea breaks throughout the week.
Online registration for IETF 89 in London is at:
http://www.ietf.org/meeting/register.html
Participating in the IETF meeting will provide your students with
valuable opportunities to experience the Internet standards development
process, and meet many of the world's leading Internet engineers,
developers and researchers. We hope you will share this information with
your students and encourage them to join us at IETF 89 in London.
Provided, below, are links to additional background information on the
IETF and the Internet Society. We encourage you to share these resources
with interested students or incorporate them into a programme on
Internet standards. Note especially our new video, Top 10 Things to Know
Before Your First IETF Meeting:

If I can answer any questions about the IETF meeting or opportunities
for students, please do not hesitate to contact me.
Kind regards,
Kevin Craemer
