Description of the Stream's Topic:
Global business and value added chains are one of the main fields of modern
Operational Research. Fascinated by the idea that the same scientific
methods can be applied everywhere, researchers are sometimes surprised that,
despite the trend of global unification, there remain differences that are
hard to grasp, to formulate or to be put in an algorithm. They sometimes
also become aware that some methods work better for one country/culture or
mindset/mentality than for another. This stream is designed to detect,
understand and analyze the reasons for those differences. They may stem from
different framework conditions like nature, history, society, policy which
are influenced by and have influenced people’s behavior for centuries. They
may be reinforced through the socialization in families, schools /
universities and companies. And they may impact the way people view
companies and universities that try to master business challenges with the
help of OR methodology.
Abstracts of approximately 600 characters (incl. blanks, ONE page, WORD
documents, NOT PDF, single spaced, excluding any references, no headers,
footers or track changes) are invited by January 31st, 2014. After
registering on the platform, please use the session codes listed above to
make sure that your contribution is attributed to the right stream and
session. Missing or wrong codes cause delays in the review process.
Decisions on acceptance will be made by February 27 (invited abstracts)
respectively March 31st, 2014.
