Qualitative Research International Summer School
University of the West of England (UWE), Bristol, UK
28 July – 1 August 2014
Lead tutors: Virginia Braun (University of Auckland, Aotearoa/New Zealand) & Victoria Clarke (UWE), authors of Successful Qualitative Research and Using Thematic Analysis in Psychology.
Opening and closing keynotes by Prof. Brendan Gough and Prof. Lucy Yardley.
Expert tutors from UWE and other UK universities.
Workshops on qualitative research ‘from start to finish’ – theoretical foundations, design, methods of data collection and analysis (interviews, focus groups, textual data collection, TA, IPA, DA, CA, GT, CAQDAS, action and narrative research), quality, communicating findings.
Early Bird Fees**
Full week (Monday – Friday) £600 (external); £500* (QMiP); £400* (UWE)
Two day ‘master class’ (Thematic Analysis) £250; £225* (QMiP); £175* (UWE)
One day workshop £150 (external); £125* (QMiP); £100* (UWE)
**The fees include tuition, lunch and refreshments (accommodation and other meals are booked separately through the online store). The early bird fees end 31 May.

Qualitative Research International Summer School Programme
Mon 28 July: Starting qualitative research – workshops on introduction to qualitative research, introduction to narrative research.
Tue 29 July: Collecting qualitative data – workshops on qualitative interviewing, focus groups, textual data collection, Grounded Theory.
Wed 30-Thur 31 July: Analysing qualitative data – workshops on Interpretative Phenomenological Analysis, Conversation Analysis, Discursive Psychology, Thematic Analysis 2-day ‘Master Class’.
Friday 1 August: Finishing qualitative research – workshops on communicating qualitative research, quality and rigor in qualitative research, computer-assisted qualitative data analysis (CAQDAS).
There will be 3-4 parallel workshops each day, book a place for 1 day, 2 days... or the full week (select from the parallel workshops, so you attend those that best suit your needs and interests).

Sally Wiggins, University of Strathclyde, editor of Discursive Research in Practice and author of numerous papers on Discourse Analysis and Discursive Psychology.
Adrian Coyle, University of Surrey, editor of Analysing Qualitative Data in Psychology and author of numerous papers on qualitative research.
Leah Tomkins, University of Middlesex, author of numerous papers on Interpretative Phenomenological Analysis.
Sonja Ellis, Sheffield Hallam University, author of LGBTQ Psychology and numerous papers using qualitative analytic approaches.
Brett Smith, Loughborough University, author of Qualitative Research in Sport, Exercise and Health Sciences and numerous papers on narrative inquiry.
Christina Silver, University of Surrey, CAQDAS Networking Project Manager and author of Using Software in Qualitative Research.
