Call for proposals - Short-term Scientific Missions
COST Action IS1101 (Climate change and migration: knowledge, law and policy, and theory) invites proposals for 4 short-term scientific missions (STSM) on the topic of climate change and migration.
STSMs aims to strengthen the Action network by allowing social scientists (broadly defined) to visit an institution in another COST Country to foster collaboration or to learn a new technique and/or methods not available in their own institution.
It is particularly intended for early-career scholars.
Value: €1500.00
Duration: Minimum one week (5 working days), maximum 3 months. The STSM must be carried out in the first half of 2014, between 1 February - 31 June 2014.
Eligibility: The applicant should be engaged in a programme of research as a postgraduate student or postdoctoral fellow or be employed in an institution of a COST Country having accepted the MoU of the Action. The institution shall be actively participating in the COST Action.
A STSM may only be approved:
• from a home institution in a COST participating country to a host institution in another COST participating country or to a formally approved host institution in a non-COST county; or
• from a formally approved home institution in a Near Neighbour country to a host institution in a COST participating country.
Proposal: The proposal should:
• outline the nature of the STSM, including aims and objectives;
• explain how the applicant will benefit from the STSM;
• justify the appropriateness of the host institution;
• take into account the selection of criteria listed below; and
• be no longer than one page of A4.
Letter of Support: A letter of support from the host institution should be included with the proposal. The letter of support should fully justify the STSM and should be signed by a senior researcher from the host institution.
Selection Criteria: Proposals will be evaluated against the following criteria:
• Relevance to the Action theme
• Overall quality
• Contribution to meeting the Action objectives (as specified in the MoU)
• Quality of letter of support from the host institution
• Contribution to building synergy across one or more of the Working Group themes
• Career stage: early-stage researchers will be prioritised
More information about the Action, including the MoU, is available on the Action website: http://www.cost.eu/domains_actions/isch/Actions/IS1101
