We have also often had comments about the desirability of being able to link formats and editions and this would certainly be useful.  While agreeing with Rose-Ann's first point that most user searches retrieve both print and e and alternative editions, feedback indicates how often people don't seem to look past the first result on the list.  However, we have not made efforts to do such linking for the same reasons as described below.

We would quite like to be able to do this but haven't put significant effort into achieving it because:



1. Most searches that most users perform would retrieve both print and e-version or all editions 2. Nearly all our e-resource records are batch loaded without any cataloguer intervention at the individual record level so we have no way of making this work consistently 3. Unless the links are automatically suppressed when the related resource is withdrawn you can end up with a lot of blind links



Hope this makes some sense.
