Like June we had talked about implementing RDA for a number of years, so by the time 31st March 2013 was on the horizon it was a topic that our senior management team were already aware of. We had also been given permission to purchase a toolkit subscription.
Even so we needed to 'rubber stamp' putting RDA into the Annual Development plan and as such I wrote a position paper for senior management. This included the following headings:
RDA and its benefits
Implementing RDA - policy
Implementing RDA - timescales
Implementing RDA - training for cataloguers
Implementing RDA - systems configuration
Costs
Recommendations for LSE
Throughout the paper I referred to the national scene, because I know that keeping up with standardization/being able to share records/being prepared for the future is important to us.

Although we have been talking about implementing RDA for a number of years and it is in our operational plan for implementation this year, I have only just been asked to present my recommendations as a paper for SMT. I expect to have to make a convincing case even though it is highly unlikely that we will not implement. We have been subscribing to the Toolkit for over a year so that hasn't been an issue for us. It is more about getting acceptance and uniformity across a library where cataloguing isn't a completely centralized activity.

Thanks June
You mentioning needing the approval of Senior Management leads nicely into another question for our session this morning, which is Who was involved in the decision/preparation for implementing RDA?
Did you have to 'justify' it to senior managers?
A few people have already mentioned that the cost of the toolkit has been a prohibitive factor, and this follows on from that a bit as well.

Good morning everyone.
At Wellcome we have been downloading RDA records for a while but haven't yet done any original cataloguing in RDA. Where records are available as either AACR2 or RDA we would take the RDA record but if the AACR2 one looks better we would take that instead. We don't convert AACR2 records to RDA.
I had planned to implement RDA fully this Spring but the preparation is proving to be quite overwhelming as we have so many other projects going on. I also have to get the approval of our Senior Management Team before anything can, officially, happen.
