Hi Tyrone
This bit us a couple of months back and cropped up again yesterday. We jumped from SP9 up to SP13 at the end of the summer and it appears that the behaviour has changed somewhere in that gap. Here's my understanding of how to address it. The grades are indeed being "leaked" through the Global Navigation menu > My Grades. If nothing else, the GN menu was a new from our upgrade. Even if the instructor doesn't include the local My Grades tool in the course menu (previously optional for us, since it wasn't part of the template used when courses roll over each year), it's effectively always on as part of the GN menu. Here's the steps I've been recommending to colleagues to sort it:
- go to Grade Centre
- scroll until the assignment's column comes into view
- click the options menu for the column in question
- choose Edit Column Information
- scroll down to section 3
Our configuration has three options there, the first two of which are the important ones:
- Include this Column in Grade Centre Calculations
- Show this Column to Students
Each of these defaults to "Yes" for us. Set them to "No" and then [Submit] those changes. That will not only hide the column (which you can more easily do from the "Show/Hide to Users" setting in the options menu) but it also stops entered data from carrying forward to the Total column which is also visible by default.
Once all the marks have been entered and ratified, all the staff have to do to publish the results is to change those two settings back to "Yes".
Hope this helps…

Dear all,
Apologies this is my second posting of the day, this time regarding notifications.
I have just had an email from a tutor who had hoped they had hidden their Grade Centre marks in such a way that student couldn’t see them until the whole group was marked. Through hiding / unhiding that GC column.
The tutor has now discovered that the notifications tool, informed them of their grade even though the column was hidden to students, as was the submission portal.
The tutor isn’t happy, does anyone know a way around this, I vaguely recall seeing this as a known issue
Many thanks
Ty
