PhD Funding at the University of Leeds (Chinese, Japanese, South East Asian Studies)
East Asian Studies at the School of Modern Languages and Cultures, University of Leeds, UK, would like to draw your attention to the funding opportunities in Chinese, Japanese and South East Asian Studies listed below. We invite applications from suitably qualified students intending to begin their PhD study in October 2014. East Asian Studies at Leeds has been established for fifty years and has built a reputation for excellence in teaching and research. China Scholarship Council –University of Leeds Scholarships
(please note the early application deadline: 3 January 2014)
Up to ten scholarships are available for high quality students who are citizens or permanent residents of the People’s Republic of China and who propose to begin their PhD at Leeds in October 2014. Applicants should normally be studying or working at a Chinese University. The award will cover fees at the international student level and provide a maintenance grant. ESRC White Rose Doctoral Training Centre (WR DTC) PhD Studentships
(closing date 3 February 2014)
The ESRC White Rose Doctoral Training Centre is a major collaboration between the Universities of Leeds, Sheffield and York. It is offers a wealth of supervisory expertise across the social sciences. One PhD studentship is available for an outstanding UK/EU candidate proposing to begin a PhD or an integrated MA+PhD in East Asian Studies in October 2014. ESRC studentships fund research in the social sciences. The award will cover fees at the UK/EU level and maintenance for three years (PhD) or for four years (MA+PhD).Further information can be found here:

WRoCAH PhD Studentships (Arts and Humanities)

Following the announcement that the White Rose College of the Arts & Humanities (WRoCAH) has received £19m from the AHRC to establish a Doctoral Training Partnership that will create over 300 PhD studentships and join the expertise of the Universities of Leeds, Sheffield and York, we are delighted to announce a range of AHRC-funded PhD opportunities in the School of Modern Languages. We encourage applications for PhD study in the areas of Chinese, Japanese and South East Asian languages, cultures, history, religions, visual and performing arts, film, media and related subjects.
Applicants for an AHRC studentship must have applied for a place of study. They may only apply for AHRC funding at one of Leeds, Sheffield or York.
