In great haste, but check out the work of Paul Kerswill, Ann Williams and other collaborators on the new-town koiné of Milton Keynes, England. MK is a new town created North-West of London in the 20th century, whose inhabitants came from all over the UK to settle there. Paul and his colleagues have various pieces on the formation of MK's koiné, and one in particular (but I'm not near my library at the moment) looks into the influence of parents' various vowel-systems on those of their children, where the children were the first generation to grow up being from Milton Keynes.
By just naming Paul and Ann here, I'm not meaning to belittle the contribution of others to that project (if you search, you'll find that there were at least two other collaborators, Jenny Cheshire and Ann Gillett): it's just that the article I'm thinking of was certainly Kerswill and Williams, but I can't remember the year. Sorry!
