Dear PALAns,
Please see below - Billy draws our attention to a recent accolade for Paul Simpson on BBC radio. He'll grumble about us announcing this, for sure ;-)
Jane
. . .
Hi everybody,
I'm sorry to add to your inbox with something that is not directly relevant to conferences, appointments, research, etc., but I thought you'd be interested to hear that our chair Paul Simpson was described by Mark Kermode in last Friday's film review show as "the best linguist in the world" (with no "probably" or other hedges).
To hear it, you'll need to subscribe to the podcast, which you can do here:
http://www.bbc.co.uk/podcasts/series/kermode
Once you've downloaded the 24th January episode (featuring an interview with Kenneth Branagh), you can hear the key moment if you start around 4 minutes 20 seconds in (NB don't listen to the programme itself on the programme website as that doesn't include the 'podcast extras' which is where he makes this comment).
Best wishes,
Billy
