There will be a Royal Astronomical Society specialist discussion meeting focused on deep-Earth research on March 14th, 2014, at Burlington House, Piccadilly, London. The meeting will comprise invited review talks, contributed talks and end with a panel discussion about the big outstanding questions in deep Earth research. Additionally we will have the opportunity for poster presentations over an extended lunch. A preliminary schedule is available at www.uksedi2014.leeds.ac.uk<http://www.uksedi2014.leeds.ac.uk/>
Important deadlines:
February 10th 2014: Abstracts for contributed talks (15 minutes including questions) should be sent by email to [log in to unmask]<mailto:[log in to unmask]>.
March 7th 2014: Titles for posters (A0, portrait orientation) for display during the lunch/poster session should be sent to [log in to unmask]<mailto:[log in to unmask]>.
Invited review speakers:
James Wookey (Bristol, UK): Deep-Earth seismology
Andy Jackson (ETH, Zurich): Geomagnetism
Stephane Labrosse (ENS, Lyon): Earth's thermal history
Immediately following this specialist meeting will be an ordinary RAS meeting, in which Professor Nils Olsen (DTU, Denmark) will give an invited presentation on observational geomagnetism. All are invited.
We welcome the attendance of undergraduate students in order to promote interest and engagement in deep-Earth research.
This specialist meeting will help to identify important topics in deep Earth research to which the UK SEDI (Study of the Earth's Deep Interior) community might contribute and we hope to foster new collaborations between UK and international deep Earth researchers. It follows a workshop on March 13th: Geomagnetic Field Modelling and Palaeo/Archaeomagnetic Data, held in the same location as UKSEDI (for more details see http://pcwww.liv.ac.uk/~nilsson/workshop2014.html)
We look forward to seeing you in London,
The organising committee
