Many readers of this list will have heard the news of the death of Dennis Lindley, on 14th
December, 2013, at the age of 90. His intellectual contributions were an inspiration to
many, while his warmth and generosity touched many others. To celebrate his 90th
birthday in July, more than 50 of these people contributed thoughts and reminiscences to
create a special volume - "A Book for Dennis".
The book was originally intended as a private gift to Dennis. However, his wife Joan has
agreed that it should now be made generally available for people to read and to buy. I
feel that there is much in this book that reveals the true humanity of a person who often
came over to those who did not know him as abrasive or even arrogant. The original
contributions, written while Dennis was still very much alive, serve as a fitting tribute to a
great man, untouched by the sadness of his passing. The book has only been modified
to add a single final page recording that sadness.

Alternatively, you can also order your own copy, in either soft or hard covers. Perhaps
you might suggest that your company/university department or library should buy a copy.
