Hi Emily,
It has been a long time since I looked for this kind of software as I find it can be done pretty easily with Bridge, IrfanView or Lightroom handrolically in batches.
When I last looked into it, which was quite few years ago there were a few bits of software that could be made to do it and I looked into it for a project before the idea ran out of steam.
The one that I remember was ExifTool at : http://www.sno.phy.queensu.ca/~phil/exiftool/
Exiv2 I think can also modify IPTC fields at: http://www.exiv2.org/
There was also a programme called EXIFER, but looking at this now, it does not look like there has been a new version for years.
Another I have just found is 'Two Pilots', and they look like they have a tool to do this: see: http://www.colorpilot.com/exif-edit-batch-export.html and http://www.colorpilot.com/exifpro_csv.html
The 'Two Pilots' software might be worth looking into, as the two programs above will need some programming I think to get them to a point where they will batch load from a cvs file.
Otherwise, there might be ways of doing this with an opensouce CMS like Dspace: https://wiki.duraspace.org/display/DSDOC18/Batch+Metadata+Editing
Afraid none of these look like instant fixes except maybe the 'Two Pilots' software.
So good luck and tell us how you get on.
cheers
eib

This thread speaks to my immediate needs.
Can listers name one or some of the programs Ed referred to for multiple-field batch entry from a .cvs file? I would love a program like Trevor described (i.e. suitable for modest computer skills), but since none have been mentioned, this might be the issue that brings me to the command line.
Thanks,
EB
