Hi Taras
We've produced three web-apps over the last year.
The web-app is a good fit for us as we want as many people as possible to use our services. So web-app that can be accessed on any device that connects to the Internet is a good fit for us. This links directly with us being a local authority museum that is free to physical and online visitors. Cost and simplicity also featured in our calculations as well.
If three seems a lot of web-apps for one museum it's because of opportunities and partnerships letting us research and develop different approaches.
Our Masters of the Moor web-app is very simple. It was produced to support an exhibition of landscape paintings and provide a template our MPM partners could use with their collections if desired. It links a collection with its associated landscape, has interaction through social media and links to print on demand. http://www.mastersofthemoor.org.uk/
Our Exeter Time Trails was more complex building on a successful website which is still in place. We took a simple trails package from our main website and developed it to use locative technologies which was at times a frustrating experience as we battled with different phones, carriers and our own aspirations. It pulls content from the original website's CMS.

Our current project is Moor Stories and this is its second iteration. Again it's linking a collection with a place and trying to encourage creativity and interaction. The patchiness of signals on Dartmoor lead us to develop a lightweight web-app version of the full website and encourage users to capture thoughts and data while on the moor then publish their story on the full website when they have a good connection to the Internet. Our biggest challenge on this project is getting users to grasp what they can do with the website and we're currently working on this.
