The term "linguistically innovative" probably had too many syllables to ever take off. It's also unfortunate that "innovative" sounds like a brag. I take it as descriptive rather than value-laden, i.e. linguistically innovative work definitionally attempts to operate some distance beyond the boundaries of commonly accepted linguistic behaviours and artefacts (limerick, anecdote, elegy, monograph, TV play, ad voiceover, rap).
