The University of Warwick has recently been awarded funding to host and develop the new Warwick Q-Step Centre. Q-Step is a £19.5 million UK-wide programme designed to promote a step-change in quantitative social science training.
The Warwick Q-Step Centre, with a total funding of £3 million including significant University investment, seeks to recruit 8 new permanent quantitative posts to join an existing team of quantitative social scientists. The Centre’s mission is to position Warwick globally as one of the leading universities of the digital age.
Warwick Q-Step brings together the Centre for Interdisciplinary Methodologies, the Department of Sociology, and the Department of Politics and International Studies, as well as other colleagues from across the faculties.
By setting up new research-led degrees in Sociology, Politics and International Studies, and the Centre for Interdisciplinary Methodologies, we aim to deliver new undergraduate and postgraduate degree programmes at the forefront of international research and teaching in cutting edge quantitative methods. Our aim is for students to gain hands-on experience and the confidence to work with statistical approaches, as well as a range of newly emerging dynamic exploratory, visualisation and predictive analytics and computational modelling techniques, broadly defined. Preparing students to work in ways that help them to understand, participate and intervene in today’s data-driven digital society lies at the heart of the exciting programme of activities we have planned.
