In Iceland we have a two year midwifery programme (on a master level) after bachelor of nursing (4y). We have had nursing education as a requirement to entry midwifery since 1982. We are currently working on a curriculum for direct entry which will be a five years programme, and entry in to practice will therefore be master in midwifery.

It is correct that we in Norway have a model based on a bachelor of nursing (3y) and then either midwifery specialization (2 Y) or master of midwifery (2y). The reason for this model is historical and not what the majority of the profession wants. But we have not succeeded to assert enough political influence to change the model yet.
Best regards

What about Finnland, Sweden, Norway - as I heard you have first general nursing education and than midwifery "specialization"? Why have you decided for that option and not for direct entry?
