As this AHRC funded project comes to a close, as one of the project investigators with Professor Helen Wood (Leicester) and Dr Helen Wheatley (Warwick), I will talk about the research design and implementation which underpinned the project, and share the findings that have emerged. The research has highlighted some fascinating - and sometimes entirely unexpected - aspects of British women's viewing pleasures, in terms of both genre and the relationships of television to identity and everyday life. While soap opera and drama more generally, perhaps as anticipated, have been significant, less expected genres such as sport and music programming have been, for our participants, even more important, and I will talk about these findings in some detail. I will also talk about the impact activities that we have organised during the project, from 'The Pop Up TV Pop Shop' in Coventry City Centre to the industry round table event at the BFI, both in 2012. Finally, I will point to the areas for future research which have emerged from the work we have done.
The lecture will take place in A39 at the Sir Clive Granger Building on the University Park campus.
