Earlier this year, a friend who is a history teacher in one of the local
comprehensive schools asked if he could bring a group of his AS-level
students to see the archive and material relating to Tudor England. He
wanted them to see that documents from the period actually survive and
for them to feel the excitement of handling the real thing! So often,
students are provided with transcripts and have no sense at all of the
way a document was produced or any context whatsoever. Good luck with
your sceptical friend, Elizabeth! I'm sure we would all welcome him to
our archives to prove his thesis wrong!
