The University of Birmingham’s Department of Modern Languages (German Studies) (http://www.birmingham.ac.uk/schools/lcahm/departments/german/index.aspx) and Institute for German Studies (http://www.birmingham.ac.uk/research/activity/institute-german-studies/index.aspx) are delighted to announce a range of AHRC-funded studentships for September 2014, through their involvement in the Midlands3Cities Doctoral Training Partnership.
German Studies at Birmingham has particular strengths in the culture, politics, history and language of the German-speaking countries from the Middle Ages to the present day. We have a concentration of research strengths in German cultural and social history of the twentieth and twenty-first centuries. We will consider applications for PhD study in all areas relevant to our research. For further details please see the staff lists here http://www.birmingham.ac.uk/schools/lcahm/departments/german/staff/index.aspx (Department of Modern Languages) and here http://www.birmingham.ac.uk/research/activity/institute-german-studies/staff/index.aspx (Institute for German Studies). Queries can be addressed to Dr Nigel Harris ([log in to unmask]) (Department of Modern Languages) or Dr Sara Jones ([log in to unmask]) (Institute for German Studies).
These scholarships are open to applicants from the EU, including the UK. They will enable the recipients to undertake meaningful and stimulating research under the guidance of a supportive and distinguished group of academics. To apply for funding, students must have applied for a place to study at the University of Birmingham and have already provided two academic references via the university’s application system. The deadline for funding applications is 12pm, Thursday 9 January 2014.
