University Assistant (post doc) at the Clinical Psychological Intervention & Clinical Neuroscience-Unit at the Department of Applied Psychology:
Health, Development, Enhancement and Intervention at the University of Vienna, Austria
Applications are invited for a post-doctoral position in the newly founded research group for Clinical Psychological Intervention & Clinical Neuroscience (head: Prof. Kristina Hennig-Fast), Faculty of Psychology, University of Vienna, Austria.
Among other research areas the Department of Applied Psychology: Health, Development, Enhancement and Intervention has a new research focus on Clinical Psychological Intervention (CPI-Unit) and Clinical Neuroscience (CNS-Unit) that is also extending over several other faculties reflecting an excellent infrastructure and interdisciplinarity. Within the field of Clinical Neuroscience the proponents of this new research focus collaborate with Prof. Claus Lamm, head of the SCAN (Social, Cognitive, Affective Neuroscience) Unit at the Department of Basic Psychological Research and Research Method at the University of Vienna.
The research infrastructure involves direct access to state-of-the art EEG labs, including combined EEG/TMS and EEG/fMRI systems, tDCS, TMS, two behavioral laboratory for group experiments and clinical assessment, and access to fMRI scanning via collaborations with the MR Centre of Excellence of the Medical University of Vienna (3 T and 7 T scanners). Furthermore a state-of-the art eye-tracking lab and a virtual-reality lab are implemented.
The collaboration of the CPI, CNS and SCAN-Unit can be characterized as an interface of clinical, biological and socio-cognitive psychology that is concerned with the application of theory and research from social and cognitive psychology toward the better understanding of
a) human adaptation and adjustment
b) development and alleviation of psychological problems, distress and clinical disorders
c) the enhancement of psychological well-being
d) the underlying bio- and neuropsychological pattern of these processes.
Topics of research include psychopathology, emotional, behavioral, cognitive and interpersonal problems in patients and healthy people as well as processes of psychological change in daily life (e.g. emotion-regulation and self-regulation) and in professional settings (e.g. psychotherapy). Clinical and Socio-Affective Cognitive Neuroscience is an interdisciplinary field that asks questions about topics traditionally of interest to social psychologists using methods traditionally employed by cognitive neuroscientists in clinical patient groups or in high-risk groups within the healthy population. Further, the impact of psychotherapeutic, pharmacotherapeutic and biopsychological interventions on socio-psychological, affective and cognitive processes and the underlying pattern of changes are of major interest.
As a Postdoctoral fellow you will join the group of Prof. Kristina Hennig-Fast (CPI- and CNS-Unit), but also be associated to the group of Prof. Lamm (SCAN-Unit).
The staff at the section of Clinical Psychology will consist of several research members (pre- and post-docs, senior lecturers, associate professors and senior professors), administrative staff members, research and teaching assistants and additional grant-funded research assistants.
The University of Vienna is the oldest university in the German-speaking world and one of the largest in Central Europe, offering great opportunities for interdisciplinary collaborations with other research groups at the Faculty of Psychology, at other Faculties, as well as with other Universities such as the Medical University of Vienna.
