Nice writeup; thanks. (I wasn't a survey respondent.)
Some of the criticisms reminded me of Miller & Page's defence of
'computation as theory' (chapter 5 of their 'Complex Adaptive Systems'
textbook). Such kinds of structured defence might be useful to avoid
'reinventing the argumentative wheel' so to speak, and as base
material for any more concerted 'community position' (or at least
discussion).
