Hi Emily,

Following on from Dorothy and Valerie's comments on EPrints and ReCollect, I just wanted to provide a bit more info.

ReCollect, a plugin for EPrints was developed during a JISC funded project at University of Essex, led by the UK Data Archive. It's easy to install on a vanilla EPrints configuration, and can be tailored to your own particular needs - for example Southampton have integrated with their own publication repository to create one instance for different output types.

You can find the plugin here: http://bazaar.eprints.org/280/
And a report on why and how it was developed here: http://www.data-archive.ac.uk/media/402401/rde_repositorydevelopmentingestreport.pdf

As Valerie said, joining the EPrints User Group would be a good idea if you do choose to go the EPrints route - we've been very active in the data area recently.

Best wishes,
Tom

Hi Emily,

We use ePrints for data already as do a number of other sites. At our recent ePrints User Group meetings we have been working to further standardise the metadata fields for a standard 'ePrints' data offering.

There is an existing 'ReCollect' add on that can be used now.

If you want to join the ePrints User Group let me know I will send you an invite and you can join the discussion and see the notes of previous meetings.

Or feel free to give me a call.

Dear Emily,

Since ePrints is intended to manage units of work (typically research) in general rather than just conventional publications, then as indicated by earlier reply there is potential for it to be configured for research data. Additionally, there was a JISC EP2DC project a few years ago that developed a module that allowed ePrints to be integrated with data sets hosted at remote repositories, which may be useful in the circumstance that you already have an established data centre for data sets.

Rgds, Tim

Emily,

I presume you aware that we have added a research data workflow on ePrints at Southampton? It is along the lines of the Essex Recollect ePrints, but has been added to an existing repository. I know this isn't an answer to your question about Equella, but I wasn't quite sure how the widely the DataPool project work on the research data workflow was known outside the Jisc MRD projects.

My first thoughts are that in the longer term ePrints may be a good option as we use this already, although it's not currently configured for research data. However, in the shorter term to meet the needs of academics who need a solution now, we are thinking about using Equella as we also have this.
