This is one of the problems I have with companies like this. I'm
regularly commissioned by DG Research to write/report on EU research
projects - and I and other colleagues are constantly having to
reassure scientists and researchers that our service is free - they're
afraid to call us back because they think we belong to a PR group of
this type.
The other problem I have is peanuts they pay to their writers and
editors. I've not been an Editorial Director, but I have been an
editor-in-chief. Our team of freelancers used to have a flat rate of
300 euro per story. They had that because I convinced the finance dept
that you had to pay for good writing, and that a flat rate saved the
admin department time and hence money. That was 8 years ago, and last
time I looked my energy bills hadn't gone down.
Now I insist on a decent rate or I walk away. You can see which
companies pay by looking at their output. Quality takes time. £60 is c**p.
