BAFTSS 2014 is shaping up to be a really great conference (lots of fantastic proposals from speakers across the UK and beyond) and we're at the point where we've got a few places left so get your proposals into us now (deadline is November 28th at 12pm). We are looking to fill specific areas (see capitals below) but don't want to put others off from submitting in the main areas inspired by Richard Dyer.
THIRD AND FINAL CALL FOR PAPERS BAFTSS CONFERENCE 2014
After the success of the first BAFTSS Conference in Lincoln in April 2013, and following the first two submissions of proposals we are pleased to announce the third and final Call for Papers for the 2014 Conference 24-26 April at the University of London (now possibly at Senate House to give more space).
As such, and with the 2014 Lifetime Achievement Award Recipient Professor Richard Dyer in mind, we would like to invite papers and/or panels on all areas of film, television and screen studies but with particular foci on:
Sexuality
Entertainment
Race
Musicals
Film Music
Stars
HOWEVER, WE WOULD ALSO LIKE TO PARTICULARLY INVITE MORE PROPOSALS ON TV, OTHER AREAS OF SCREEN STUDIES AND TECHNOLOGIES TO HELP BALANCE SOME OF THE CONFERENCE CONTENT.
There will also be a special screening of the digitally re-mastered Riddles of the Sphinx (Mulvey and Wollen, 1977), a screening of one Richard Dyer's favourite films Pakeezah (Amrohi, 1972) two keynote talks, the BAFTSS Awards Ceremony, a Professional Panel discussion of the discipline and the effect of Impact with guest speakers and, pre-conference, a Postgraduate/Early Career Development session focussing on attaining full-time permanent posts. The conference will be begin at 2pm on the 24th and end at 2pm on the 26th following the final plenary. A conference dinner will be held on the evening of Friday 25th. Accommodation will be attendees' responsibility to organise but conference fees will be announced soon (the conference fee will be under £100 for full attendance and under £50 for concessionary full attendance). This also excludes the conference dinner price. Day fees will be available at both full and concessionary rates also. We will be using an online booking system which will open in January.
If you would like to submit a proposal in response to this Third and FINAL Call, please email a 200-300 word paper proposal, a panel proposal (panels of no more than 3 please) with details of each paper (so a total of no more than 750 words please) to conference committee co-chair Anna Claydon at [log in to unmask] by November 28th. We would also like a 150 word bio and contact details and affiliations to be included in the Word (or Rich Text) document. Please do not send as pdf files. All proposals will be reviewed by members of the Executive Committee.

MeCCSA is the subject association for the field of media, communication and cultural studies in UK Higher Education.
