Thursday 12 December 2013, 10.00 -- 5.00 at the British Academy, 10
Carlton House Terrace, London SW1Y 5AH
http://oracc.museum.upenn.edu/nimrud/events/museumsworkshop
This one-day workshop will showcase the role of Linked Open Data and
mobile-friendly technologies in enhancing access to, and use of,
cuneiform collections in mobile gallery guides, public websites and
group events. It is aimed at curators, educators and IT developers,
though museum staff involved with using cuneiform collections in any
regard are most welcome.
The workshop will focus on free resources on Mesopotamia and the way in
which museums and museum-goers can use them to enhance their
understanding and experience of cuneiform objects. The programme will
include presentations on online and mobile-friendly resources, including
websites dedicated to Mesopotamian history and the cuneiform script. We
will also discuss the ways in which reusable online resources can be
used to enhance visitors' experience, and how such resources might be
optimised to meet museums' needs. Participants will have an opportunity
to give their feedback on the resources.
This event is organised as part of the AHRC-funded research project
"Materialities of Assyrian Knowledge Production" at the University of
Cambridge in collaboration with the British Institute for the Study of Iraq.
There is no charge for the day, except for a contribution of £15 towards
catering costs (including lunch and tea/coffee).
Funding may be available towards travel expenses for participants from
museums which hold collections from the Ancient Near East.
To book, please email Silvie Zamazalová ([log in to unmask]). Full
programme and additional information is available at
