On 9th December ALISS (Association of Librarians and Information Professionals in the Social Sciences) http://www.alissnet.org.uk will be holding a half-day conference which will highlight trends in engaging with user communities to develop more appropriate, efficient and effective services for all.
It includes coverage of initiatives from the British Library and the Higher Education sector.
Speakers will include:
* Maria Lampert, from the British Library Business and IP Centre, on the Centre's work with the patent community
* Cathy Walsh, from the University of East London, who will discuss UEL Library efforts to engage with students in the development of information literacy resources
* Norma Menabney, Queen's University of Belfast, on outreach programmes with the local school community
* Lisa Hawksworth, from the University of Liverpool, on the Liverpool Scholars Programme, which aims to support students from traditionally under-represented backgrounds with their applications for and entry to University
