I'd be very interested to know what kind of methods you currently use to try and keep on top of noise levels.
We have very clearly defined areas that cater for all study needs (group/social, quiet and silent), all of which have obvious signage and we also have Library Staff who regularly rove in all areas of the Library to ensure that the Library environment is fine, including the noise levels.
Despite this, we seem to be receiving increased complaints re: noise levels, especially in our supposed silent areas.
Part of this relies on the students to respect their fellow students' right to study in peace and quiet, but as soon as the roving staff member leaves it seems that 'anything goes' at times. Very frustrating.
I'd be incredibly grateful for any ideas that you are using that have worked well for you and to see how others deal with this.
