Hi Keith,
If you do want to record specific types you can download a copy of the Historic Aircraft Types Thesaurus.

Sophie,
At the moment we don’t split things down into Maritime and Monument records.
Therefore these are currently recorded as Monuments and as the three specific monument types AIRCRAFT, AIRCRAFT CRASH SITE and WRECKAGE.
Their further refinement may be an aspiration for the future for specific types of aircraft (currently fairly manageable in a day given the number of aircraft at the moment recorded). We’ve, however, refined their location a bit as we are a point-based record.
Hope that helps,
Keith

Subject: Aircraft crash sites in the sea
Hi All
I wondered what other HER’s do when they are recording an aircraft crash site in the sea? Do you put it as a maritime record type or a monument record type?
The East Sussex records are currently on Maritime which isn’t incorrect but somehow doesn’t sit right with me so thought I would see what the majority do.
Best wishes
Sophie
