The NAO has published its report on A&E - but there are some very odd
figures in the data!
http://www.nao.org.uk/report/emergency-admissions-hospitals-managing-demand/
e.g from the Regional Data spreadsheet
NHS trust or foundation trust Number of emergency admissions for 2010-11
Number of emergency admissions for 2012-13 Change (%)
Hampshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust
19,904 36,902 85.4
York Teaching Hospital NHS Foundation Trust
28,809 47,894 66.2
(in case this doesn't come over properly formatted, two hospitals had
increases in emergency admissions between 2010-11 and 2012-13 of 85.4 % and
66.2%
At the other end, two hospitals had massive decreases - -25.9% and -49%
Mid Cheshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust
32,140 23,825 - 25.9
Alder Hey Children's NHS Foundation Trust
21,374 10,886 - 49
Is this due to reconfiguration, closure of nearby A&E departments, patients
voting with their feet (*could patients attending Mid Cheshire Hospitals or
Alder Hey Children's NHS Foundation Trust go elsewhere?
