Call for participation:
AAG 2014 Panel Title: Natural Resource and Infrastructure Development in Inner Asia
The purpose of the panel is to discuss how natural resource and infrastructure development are transforming landscapes and land use policies in Inner Asia. This panel builds off of conversations from a similar panel at the 2013 AAG where infrastructure for natural resource development emerged as a major issue facing the region. New participants, Human and Physical Geographers are encouraged to join.
Some suggested discussion themes related to natural resource and infrastructure development include:
- Regional geopolitics
- Regional links and the global economy
- Environmental and economic displacement
- Environmental impacts and adaptation strategies
- Political barriers and opportunities
- Hazards, risk and resilience
- Role of governance, economics and globalization
Note: Inner Asia is defined broadly to include Mongolia, Inner Mongolia, Tibet, Xinjiang, Buryatia, and surrounding regions.
Please send a brief description of what you plan to discuss and your AAG PIN to Sara Jackson ([log in to unmask]) by December 1, 2013. This panel is a discussion panel not a paper session, so you do not need to send an abstract.
