Dear all,
I've recently audited a community hall where some of the user groups are keen to improve facilities for visitors with disabilities. Unfortunately, so far they have been unable to get permission to make substantive alterations to the building and the current toilet is an awkward shape and on the small side to adapt to a fully accessible toilet.
Does anyone have suggestions, given that any negotiations to alter the building are likely to take years to negotiate and fundraise?
My first suggestion has been to improve colour contrast as this is cheap and easy for them to do.
I would be interested in views on the value of installing rails without at least 1500mm turning space?
Are there any guidelines for accessible toilets for children - as the services are mostly for children, would this be more appropriate anyway?
