We have non cartridge based analysers. We chose these because of our workload. We have 21 analysers with 50% performing over 1500 samples per month. We total >20,000 blood gases each month with an average downtime of less than 2% each month. Time spent on maintenance per day is approx 3 hrs per day for all 21 analysers (incl 2 off site).

Dear POCT brains,
Anyone willing to share an evaluation protocol for blood gas machines?
We are currently cartridge based - but I feel that we do so much reactive troubleshooting it may well be equivalent to proactive maintenance on a non-cartridge system. And at least maintenance can be scheduled.
Opinions?
For those with non-cartridge based systems - could you give me an idea of how much time POCT staff spend doing scheduled maintenance, and how much un-scheduled maintenance and downtime there is?
thanks
Katy
