What a lot of interesting ideas; many thanks to everyone who has weighed in and shared their practices/experiences. I'm going to put these to my more technically-minded colleagues and see if we can come up with something - probably a combination of several other people's methods.
Thanks again, you've all been most helpful.
Tom

Dear Tom,
Dear All,
We would like to respond to the queries regarding the SpringerProtocols Archive as available through Jisc Collections.
We have created a custom page on Springer.com to provide the supporting resources for Jisc subscribers. This page can be found here: http://www.springer.com/librarians?SGWID=0-117-12-1003850-0
All of the material on this page has been tailored for Jisc customers and the Jisc Archive.
This includes a direct link to the SpringerProtocols Archive on SpringerLink and customised MARC record export files (c. 1,250 records at the book title level). Training and marketing information is also available.
The Jisc SpringerProtocols Archive is hosted on SpringerLink and includes all 1981-2012 Protocols content.
The SpringerProtocols.com platform also hosts Protocols (including 2013 onwards). Access to this platform is via current, rather than the Jisc Archive, subscription.
Please do not hesitate to contact [log in to unmask] should you have any questions or require assistance.
Kind Regards,
Emma Lynden
Licensing Manager

Subject: [lis-e-resources] Linking to Springer Protocols Backfile
Afternoon all,
I've got myself in a bit of a tangle, and was hoping to crowd source some best practice...
We have access to the Springer Protocols backfile (1981-2012), and I was wondering how other institutions are making it available/discoverable to their users. There's a desire from our users to have it listed in our OPAC and/or link resolver, but there's no single entity called 'Springer Protocols', the protocols are all floating about on the Springer platform. So I'm not sure exactly what we should link to. Or should we not try to treat Springer Protocols as a single entity at all, and just load the MARC records for the individual protocols (some 28,000 in all) into our catalogue, and treat them all as if they are individual e-books?
Not quite a database, not quite a books series, not quite a journal... I'm not sure which angle to attack this from.
All suggestions gratefully received!
Many thanks,
Tom
