Lecture and Book Launch: 'Cuba and its Neighbours - Democracy in Motion'
Start: Dec 3, 2013 5:30 - 7:00 PM
Author and journalist Arnold August<http://www.democracycuba.com/bio.html> will talk about his book Cuba and its Neighbours - Democracy in Motion<http://zedbooks.co.uk/paperback/cuba-and-its-neighbours> (Zed Books, 2013). In this book, Arnold August explores Cuba's unique form of democracy, presenting a detailed analysis of the country's electoral process and the state's functioning between elections. Comparing the Cuban system with practices in the US, Venezuela, Bolivia and Ecuador, he describes Cuba as a laboratory where the process of democratization is continually in motion, and argues for better understanding, avoiding either blanket condemnation or idealistic political illusions.

Dec 5, 2013 5:00 - 7:00 PM
UCL Institute of the Americas is proud to collaborate with the British Foundation for the University of the West Indies to present this panel.
