1.4 Learning Technologist of the Year Award
The Learning Technologist of the Year Award’s overall purpose is to celebrate and reward excellent practice and outstanding achievement in the learning technology field. The awards were presented in Nottingham at the 2013 ALT Conference on the evening of 11 September and sponsored by University of London Computer Centre.

1.5 Busting webcast myths at the FOTE conference
Gwen Noteborn is heading the Edl@b (education Lab) at Maastricht University (www.edlab.nl) and works with teachers, students and companies to help them implement online tools in class, to share the findings of their experiences and to research the outcomes of these implementations. The Future of Technology in Education (FOTE) conference on 11 October 2013 was a good platform for her to reflect on how students use webcasts in education, drawing on her research conducted in Belgium and the Netherlands over the last four years.

2.1 *Last chance to book!* No way back? Exploring the impact, data and potential of MOOCs, University of Southampton, 6 November 2013
This one day conference is about current MOOC (Massive Open Online Courses) research, experience and development. A key focus of the event is on exploring the impact of MOOCs, how data is created, used and analysed and to consider the potential of MOOCs in education. Organised by ALT’s Special Interest Group for MOOCs, the conference will bring together practitioners and researchers to discuss, discover and define the evolving MOOC landscape.

2.2 Webinar on The Art and Science of Learning Design: a Supplement of Research in Learning Technology, 19 November 15.00 - 16.00 GMT
Research in Learning Technology recently published a supplement on "The art and science of learning design". Several of the supplement’s authors will convene for a webinar, in which they will highlight key points in their papers, discuss issues emerging from this publication and answer audience questions and comments.

2.3 Webinar series on Digital Literacies and Digital Scholarship, launching 30 October 2013
ALT is running a series of free webinars funded by the JISC IOE Digital Literacy project. The series will explore the themes of the forthcoming special issue of Research in Learning Technology, which will focus on Digital Literacies and Digital Scholarship, featuring the authors of four of the papers in the special issue. The session details are:

4.1 Immersive Education Summit, 28-29 November 2013
The draft programme for the forthcoming Immersive Education Summit has been announced. The summit will take place at King's College London on 28-29th November 2013. The programme includes 4 keynote presentations, long and short papers, demonstrations, posters and a speed-sharing session. Also there will be a gala social evening in London's Covent Garden on the evening of 28th November.

4.2 UCISA event: Effective use of mobile technologies, Imperial College London, 24 January 2014.
A showcase of best practice in the use of mobile technology to enhance teaching, learning and assessment. The event includes case studies from the upcoming best practice guide. The case studies go beyond the provision of mobile access to existing technologies and will demonstrate the advantage of using mobile technologies in the learning experience.

In 2010-12, a team of researchers from Charles Sturt University, the University of New England and the University of Southern Queensland undertook an Australia and New Zealand-wide scoping study on the use of virtual worlds for learning and teaching in higher education.
