1.3 Learning Technologist of the Year Award
The Learning Technologist of the Year Award’s overall purpose is to celebrate and reward excellent practice and outstanding achievement in the learning technology field. The awards were presented in Nottingham at the 2013 ALT Conference on the evening of 11 September and sponsored by University of London Computer Centre.

2.2 Webinar on The Art and Science of Learning Design: a Supplement of Research in Learning Technology, 19 November 15.00 - 16.00 GMT
Research in Learning Technology recently published a supplement on "The art and science of learning design". Several of the supplement’s authors will convene for a webinar, in which they will highlight key points in their papers, discuss issues emerging from this publication and answer audience questions and comments.

2.3 Webinar series on Digital Literacies and Digital Scholarship
ALT is running a series of free webinars funded by the JISC IOE Digital Literacy project. The series will explore the themes of the forthcoming special issue of Research in Learning Technology, which will focus on Digital Literacies and Digital Scholarship, featuring the authors of four of the papers in the special issue. The final two sessions are:
28 November, 3-5pm: The Five Resources of Critical Digital Literacy - Juliet Hinrichsen and Antony Coombs

4.1 In Focus: Learner analytics and big data symposium, 10 December 2013
The aim of the free event, on 10 December 2013 at Senate House, University of London, is to provide an informative and thought-provoking introduction to the concept of learner analytics and big data, with indications as to how these are being used or could be adapted to work in educational contexts and what the future might look like if analytics become mainstream. 4.2 Immersive Education Summit, 28-29 November 2013
The draft programme for the forthcoming Immersive Education Summit has been announced. The summit will take place at King's College London on 28-29th November 2013. The programme includes 4 keynote presentations, long and short papers, demonstrations, posters and a speed-sharing session. Also there will be a gala social evening in London's Covent Garden on the evening of 28th November.

4.3 MOOC: First Steps into Learning and Teaching 27 January - 7 March 2014
This five-week introduction to teaching in higher education will again be run as a MOOC, free and open to all for participation (assessment incurs a fee).The module attracts participants from across the world, who bring with them a wide variety of resources and expertise. Learning across such a distributed group depends on connectivity and frequent interactive communication.

4.4 UCISA event: Effective use of mobile technologies, Imperial College London, 24 January 2014.
A showcase of best practice in the use of mobile technology to enhance teaching, learning and assessment. The event includes case studies from the upcoming best practice guide. The case studies go beyond the provision of mobile access to existing technologies and will demonstrate the advantage of using mobile technologies in the learning experience.

5.1 Designing Learning Landscapes: 30 May 2014, Goldsmiths, University of London
This one-day, free Teaching & Learning conference is devoted to mapping the impact of technology-enhanced learning (TEL) in higher education over the last decade. We are seeking papers, short presentations, workshops and demonstrations on issues central to contemporary learning and teaching cultures. Deadline: 6 December 2013.

5.2 Connected Learning in an Open World. APT 2014
Contributions to the 12th Academic Practice and Technology (APT) Conference at the University of Greenwich are invited from practitioners, researchers, students and employers in all education and training sectors. This year’s conference is entitled "Connected Learning in an Open World” and will take place on the 8th July 2014 on the world heritage campus at the University of Greenwich convened by the eCentre for Learning and Innovation Research. Contributions may take the following formats: case study; practitioner-led inquiry; research paper/work in progress; developmental/research project report, and posters.
