Hi folks,
I've been over in Japan (Hinode7) so haven't seen
the Dr Who program (with Brian Cox) yet. However,
I was on the BBC2 program 'Science Britannica'
with Brian, and I thought that was a good series.
My role was to speak as a scientist not just appear
as a 'decorative' item.
I also gave one of the Friday evening discourses at
the RI earlier this year, which seemed to go well.
There are a lot of female scientists, and we do need
a balanced representation in the media, but we don't
need to be young or even look like film stars to
appear on TV.
Communicating science is an art, it isn't easy.
We need to get across the passion we have for science.
Brian Cox manages to do this. In a busy and highly
competitive world, outreach and communication work
isn't always given the recognition it deserves.
