Hi,
There are a number of different techniques and technologies for governing SharePoint in line with international standards and to carry on Heather's level playing field theme, I also recommend you look at
- HP Records Manager (http://www.autonomy.com/products/hp-records-manager) for a repository based approach for SharePoint Governance as well as
- HP Control Point (http://www.autonomy.com/products/control-point) for auto categorising SharePoint content and managing it in-place
There are a large number of clients that are also using the two technigues in combination to bring in a more holistic approach covering not just SharePoint but Exchange, PST's, FileShares and other repositories such as Documentum, Open Text etc. so that you get a unified information governance platform and don't just turn SharePoint into yet another silo.
Hope this helps.
