Subject: JISC mailing list
Hi,
In light of recent discussions on the mailing list, I feel that is is necessary to add PsyPAG's standpoint on a few of the points raised.
The use and purpose of the mailing list has been a topic of discussion for some time within the committee. In order to assist in some of the basic queries we have added information to our website homepage (www.psypag.co.uk<http://www.psypag.co.uk/>):
PsyPAG maintains a JISCmail list open to ALL psychology postgraduate students and is located here<https://www.jiscmail.ac.uk/cgi-bin/webadmin?SUBED1=PSYCH-POSTGRADS&A=1>. This list is a fantastic resource for support and advice regarding research methodology, statistics, job opportunities as well as postgraduate events and issues. It can also be used to advertise for participants, provided a maximum of 2 requests are sent. We recommend that any research using human participants includes the relevant ethical clearance, confidentiality statement etc. PsyPAG only maintains this list and has no affiliation or control over the content distributed in the list. If you wish to unsubscribe, please return to the original subscription page.
In terms of our involvement in the mailing list, as stated above, we simply 'maintain' the list by assisting with subscription queries and keep it going via the Communications Officer within the committee. As mentioned, a forum platform would be an obvious solution to some of the issues. However, the logistics involved with initial set-up and management are currently not available within PsyPAG. This is not to say that it is a lost cause...simply a difficult one.
As Moitree mentioned, the potential of a forum platform will be discussed at the next PsyPAG meeting on the 23rd of November. If you have any further thoughts on the points I have raised and wish for them to be discussed at the next committee meeting, then please contact me directly.
Many thanks,
