Associate Dean for Research, Creative Practice and Strategic Initiative
The Penny W. Stamps School of Art & Design is seeking qualified candidates for the position of Associate Dean for Research, Creative Practice and Strategic Initiatives. The Associate Dean will provide strategic vision and operational oversight of research and creative activities at the School, including: development, implementation and oversight of a structured and transparent research administration program; development of relationships with federal and state agencies, foundations, nonprofits, corporations and other external partners, as well as with other UM schools, colleges, and departments; and, development of a robust research culture designed to establish the School’s reputation and reach in research in art and design. The position also oversees the initiation and implementation of strategic initiatives that further goals and objectives of the School, including national and international engagement. The position reports to the Dean, serves on the Executive Committee and other committees as appropriate, and chairs the School's Creative Practice and Research Committee. The position will not have ongoing teaching responsibilities.
We are seeking candidates who demonstrate the following qualifications: intellectual generosity and experience in facilitating and supporting successful research and creative work of faculty colleagues; experience in research administration and fiscal/personnel management; success and recognized excellence in research and creative practice; experience in developing and successfully securing research grants from federal agencies and foundations and in enacting research collaborations across disciplines and institutions; experience in off-campus and international programs, with a global outlook and intercultural competency; commitment to excellence in higher education in art and design; and, commitment to enhancing diversity and equal opportunity, with a highly collegial and collaborative working style.

Credentials: Terminal degree in a relevant discipline, Ph.D. preferred.
Appointment Rank: Candidates must meet the requirements for appointment at the rank of professor of art and design, with tenure.
