The International Bagpipe Organisation warmly invites you to participate in the Second International Bagpipe Conference, marking International Bagpipe Day, a celebration of the world’s bagpipes and bagpiping traditions. This one-day conference will be hosted by the Institute of Musical Research and the School of Oriental and African Studies in central London, supported by the IMR, SOAS music department and the Bagpipe Society. We aim to establish a productive and welcoming platform for all people interested in the study of bagpipes: academics, music experts, instrument makers, folk musicians, dancers and music lovers. This is an exciting interdisciplinary opportunity to debate various questions relating to the study of bagpipes in the twenty-first century.

Friday 7 March 2014
The conference will be launched by an opening concert hosted by the SOAS Concert Series. International artists will be featured including an all-female band from Galicia to mark International Women’s Day on 8 March. Andy May Quartet (Newcastle, UK)
