Shallow pits at Plaster Down on Dartmoor appear to have been dug to collect fuller's earth. There is very fine clay still visible in these pits, and a nearby farm is called Fullamoor Farm. I would be interested to know if any other sources of fuller's earth have been recorded on Dartmoor or even Devon and Cornwall.
Fuller's earth was widely used for cleaning wool, and fulling mills were common locally.
