Hi Dom,
thanks for the Carnegie information.
I'm more specifically looking for simple $USD metrics on income. Let me give you the scenario:
Publisher X sees that under various rating systems in the USA (including Carnegie) that Harvard is a large well funded University
Publisher X therefore offers only 5% discount to Harvard and similar Universities
By the same token Publisher X then looks at the JISC band System and see that Imperial College is in Band A and assumes they should pay the same rate as Harvard.
You and I know this is somewhat like comparing Apples with Oranges. We know both are in the respective "top tiers" but one probably receives significantly less funds each year.
I have quite a to of metrics on UK University income, but nothing on the US market.

Subject: [lis-e-resources] USA vs UK University income
Dear List Members,
I am again trying to "help" a non UK based publisher "justify" treating UK academic institutions differently from those in the USA. While it is very easy to find good reliable metrics on the income of UK HE institutions I am finding it more difficult to get metrics on the USA market.
Can anyone point me to a good source of metrics on USA University incomes and revenues? Ideally i just need to know average USA University income (all sources) with the citing source.
Any help will be appreciated, and perhaps rewarded in the long term with lower prices for the UK market ;-)
Please share anything you have with the rest of the list - many people may find this kind of information useful during publisher negotiations.
Many thanks
Steven Tweedie
