italian-studies: Scholarly discussions in any field of Italian studies
Dear italian-studies colleagues,
I am pleased to inform you of a special event, in collaboration with the University of Bristol's InsideArts week.
The week's activities are listed at:
http://www.bristol.ac.uk/arts/festival/programme/
I wish particularly to draw your attention to the event of Tuesday 12 November, featuring a screening and panel discussion of Federico Fellini's *8 1/2*, marking the 50th anniversary of its release in 1963 (as well as the 90th anniversary of the birth of Fellini, and the 20th anniversary of his death).
This is taking place at The Cube Microplex (Dove Street South, Kingsdown, Bristol BS2 8JD), and the schedule is as follows:
1800 - Doors open; complimentary nibbles availble, along with cash bar
1830 - Bar closed (temporarily); welcome & brief introduction to the film by George Ferzoco
1840 - Screening of *8 1/2*
2050 - End of screening; sandwiches provided, and bar re-opens until 2300
2120 - Beginning of panel discussion, followed by general chat (with sandwiches and drinks at cash bar)
2300 - Doors close
The panel members are (in alphabetical order):
Tina Beattie (Professor, Theology, University of Roehampton)
Mary Colwell (Documentary film-maker and producer, Bristol)
John Foot (Professor, Italian, Bristol)
Emma Harris (Alumna, Religion and Theology, Bristol)
Robert King (PhD candidate, University of Ghent)
Catherine O'Rawe (Senior Lecturer, Italian, Bristol)
On the whole, the panelists will look at the movie, Fellini, and the times in pretty much any way they choose, but overall they will pay particular attention the religious culture that informs the film and its director. After each panelist briefly addresses the group, members of the audience will be invited to join the general discussion, adding their own observations, questions and comments.
It is not possible simply to show up for this event. It is necessary to visit this web page --
http://insidearts-fellini.eventbrite.co.uk
-- and reserve a place. Admission is free, and we are trying to line up some extra treats as well! There will be not more than 100 seats available, and apparently by word of mouth there has already been a good response. To that end, I would be really grateful, if this event is of interest to you, if you could register as soon as possible.
Yours truly,
George Ferzoco
