PhD scholarships available.
The University of Massachusetts Amherst invites applications for the
PhD degree program in German Studies. Our interdisciplinary program
has particular strengths in film studies, cultural studies,
transnationalism, German-Jewish studies, Black German studies,
Turkish-German studies, GDR studies. Students have the opportunity to
earn graduate certificates Advanced Feminist Studies, African Diaspora
Studies and Film Studies. UMass Amherst has a strong job placement
record for our PhD graduates: recent job placements include Middlebury
College, University of Portland and the University of British Columbia.
Students may apply to the PhD program with a B.A. or with an
M.A./Magister in any relevant field. High-level proficiency in English
and German is required.
