Dear All,
I work as a Legal Assistant at RESCATE, a Spanish NGO that works with asylum-seekers. Right now I am providing legal support to a gender-based case.
Details of the case:
Female. Born in 1970. Palestinian origin. Jordanian nationality. Many years ago (between 1990 and 1996) she suffered physical and psychological violence from her family (father) after she decided not to accept religious (Islamic), traditional and cultural rules (not wearing hijab, not praying, etc.). She was accused of having dishonoured the family. Her father threatened to kill her if they found her. She fled to Syria. In 2011, she fled from Syria to Spain.
She is very afraid of being returned to Jordan because she is convinced that her family will find her easily. She is convinced that they are still waiting her to cleanse the family honour and will kill her.
Could someone give me information and/or information sources about this harmful practice in Jordan and, precisely, the current risks of an honour killing in case she is returned? Has anyone seen a similar case where Jordanian authorities see this dishonour as a point to consider in passport renewal and/or public order to lose Jordanian nationality?
I really appreciate any information. Contact me at: [log in to unmask]
Thanks in advance.
