Call for Papers:
CFP ‘Haunted Landscapes and the Romantic Imagination’. Themed panels invited for a One Day Symposium hosted by Falmouth University and the Association for the Study of Literature and Environment, UK and Ireland.
Venue: Falmouth University, Cornwall, UK
Keynote Speaker: Professor Ronald Hutton (Bristol University)
On March 8th 2014 Falmouth University and ASLE UKI will be holding a one day symposium on the subject of ‘haunted landscapes’. Romantic and Gothic writers had a particular relationship with both the landscape and concepts of the supernatural. We are inviting proposals for panels at this symposium. You may propose any theme around the concept of haunted landscapes and the Romantic and Gothic imagination. Panels will consist of three 20 minute papers and will be chaired by you as the academic who is putting the panel together.
Subjects can include (but are not bound by):
‘Gothick’ Style and Medieval Influences
Walpole’s Legacy
Wandering Heroines and the sublime landscape
Gothic Landscapes and Women’s Writing
Psychosexual Labyrinths
The Centre of the ‘Maze’
Romantic ‘Orientalism’
Nightmares and Dreamscapes
