Friends and colleagues,
I'm delighted to report that we are receiving a healthy flow of proposals for papers and panels for the 2014 BAFTSS Conference. As you know, we are the guests of Birkbeck College, London from 24-26th April. Our 2nd Call for Papers has been issued, and we have extended the deadline date for this to the 31ST OCTOBER 2014.
Things are shaping up extremely well, and if you would like to submit a proposal you are encouraged to do so. The details are as follows:
BAFTSS Conference 2014 – London (24-26 April)
After the success of the first BAFTSS Conference in Lincoln in April 2013, and following the first submissions of proposal we are pleased to announce the second Call for Papers for the 2014 Conference 24-26 April at Birkbeck Institute of the Moving Image, University of London.
As such, and with the 2014 Lifetime Achievement Award Recipient Professor Richard Dyer in mind, we would like to invite papers and/or panels on all areas of film, television and screen studies but with particular foci on:
Sexuality
Entertainment
Race
Musicals
Film Music
Stars
There will also be a special screening of the digitally re-mastered Riddles of the Sphinx (Mulvey and Wollen, 1977), a screening of one Richard Dyer’s favourite films 'Pakeezah' (Amrohi, 1972) two keynote talks (one by the Award recipient, one by a filmmaker tba), the BAFTSS Awards Ceremony, a Professional Panel discussion of the discipline and the effect of Impact and, pre-conference, a Postgraduate/Early Career development session. The conference will be begin at 2pm on the 24th and end at 2pm on the 26th following the final plenary. A conference dinner will be held on the evening of Friday 25th. The preliminary timetable (which may of course alter slightly) looks like this:

Accommodation will be attendees responsibility to organise but conference fees will be announced soon (we anticipate the conference fee being less than £100 for full attendance and no more than £50 for concessionary full attendance). This also excludes the conference dinner price. Day fees will be available at both full and concessionary rates also.
If you would like to submit a proposal in response to this Second Call, please email a 200-300 word paper proposal, a panel proposal (panels of no more than 4 please) with details of each paper (so a total of no more than 1000 words please) to conference committee co-chair Anna Claydon at [log in to unmask] by October 31st. We would also like a 150 word bio and contact details and affiliations to be included in the Word (or Rich Text) document. Please do not send as pdf files. All proposals will be reviewed by members of the Executive Committee.
